Correspondence from Magistrate Major Crummer re the conduct of James Jackson - his behaviour towards the Magistrate at the office of the gaol when Major Crummer visited the gaol to enquire into Jackson s conduct towards the officers of the gaol was most insulting. Major Crummer would have had him prosecuted for the insults except that he felt commiseration for Jackson s unhappy situation. Major Crummer remarked that a more ill-behaved insolent and violent character had never appeared before him previously
